This Triple Axis Magnetometer Breakout has the HMC5883L magnetometer on board. Just plug into your Raspberry Pi and you'll have an instant digital compass you can communicate with using standard I2C. Can also be used to detect magnets nearby with accuracy in 3 dimensions!
