The MSGEQ7 is a seven band graphic equalizer chip used to detect the max peak of audio in each of the 7 bands and multiplex it together to provide a DC representation of the amplitude of each band. Very useful for audio projects!

This band graphic equalizer has 7 audio bands: 63Hz, 160Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.5kHz, 6.25kHz and 16kHz. Each of the seven frequencies are peak detected and multiplexed providing a DC representation of the amplitude of each band on the output. Use a resistor and capacitor to select the chip's clock oscillator frequency. The multiplexer is controlled using just two pins (reset and strobe). The multiplexer readout rate pin also sets the decay time (10% decay per read) so you can use less pins. No external components required to select filter responses just coupling and decoupling capacitors.
