This device has visible spectrum ambient light detection as well as close range infrared proximity detection all in one neat I2C package. Get the best of both worlds with ambient light detection when something is far away and infrared proximity detection when the object is so close that it blocks most of the light.

The APDS-9930 breakout is an ambient light sensor (ALS) and close range proximity sensor all in one with I2C interface. The ambient brightness sensor uses dual light diodes to approximate human visual response properties of 0.01 lux low lumen illumination. This means it will work well in both dark and light environments! High sensitivity allows this device to operate in dark areas. Proximity sensor ensures that when something is so close it blocks most of the light, you can continue to detect distance accurately with 10 cm infrared proximity detection. From bright sunlight into the darkness of a dimly lit room this sensor will continue to operate with minimal interference affects. High efficiency optical lens provides extra effective infrared transmission and reception which reduces power consumption. This sensor also has a built in low power mode to bring the average power consumption down even further.
